May's screening is a 1938 classic swashbuckling film that follows the legendary English outlaw Robin Hood as he defies tyranny in medieval England. When King Richard the Lionheart is away at war, the cruel Prince John and the oppressive Sheriff of Nottingham exploit the poor with heavy taxes. Outlawed after opposing this injustice, Robin retreats to Sherwood Forest, where he leads a band of merry men in robbing from the rich to aid the oppressed. Along the way, he battles Prince John's forces, wins the respect of his followers, and falls in love with the initially skeptical Maid Marian. The story culminates in Robin's fight to restore justice and rightful rule to England.
